The design emerged from a desire to have a mouthpiece with more mass around the bottom of the cup, but with a relatively light structure towards the rim, where the embouchure and the mouthpiece come into contact. The thinner cup wall gives the player much better contact with the instrument; the vibrations of the instrument are felt through the lips, allowing greater control when playing a wide range of dynamics. The mass around the bottom cup gives a rock-solid, firm fortissimo and a powerful low register. The presence of more upper overtones in pp because of the thin cup-wall gives unbelievable clarity and projection.
